FINANCIAL BENCHMARKING

Schools are now able to compare income and expenditure with similar establishments in England.

There are 4 main areas of expenditure

• Staff totals
• premises totals (for example, building maintenance)
• occupation totals (the cost of occupying the school building, for example, energy and water)
• supplies and services totals (for example, stationery, books and examination fees)

Benchmarking helps the school:

look at spend in these areas overall, as well as sub-categories of spend
compare our spend with other similar schools (or academy trusts) make sure that we are getting the best calue when using school funds
