GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

Underpinned by the National Curriculum, we have designed a curriculum which provides each learner with the opportunity to grow spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. We want our children to demonstrate our three Core values in all lessons. Our spiral curriculum is broad and balanced providing children with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in all subject areas, preparing them for adult life. Our curriculum is diverse, and has been designed to ensure it is representative of our school context and community. We are ambitious for all of our pupils and have designed a curriculum that enables our learners to:

  • Release and realise their potential and be able to demonstrate it to others
  • Give them transferable skills for future employment and living
  • Realise that learning continues and has no boundaries
  • Be exposed to a range of opportunities and experiences
  • Navigate future change in society and the evolution of technology
  • Develop thoughtful perspectives on the world

Allfarthing CARES

CURIOSITY: Enquiry is at the heart of our curriculum. The teachers foster curiosity and encourage the children to explore this in a variety of different ways.

AMBITIOUS: Our curriculum is ambitious and our teachers have high expectation for all of the children, developing their aspirations in preparation for life in the wider world.

REFLECTIVE: Our curriculum is reflective of the children and their local, national and global contexts. Our children are able to reflect on their learning journeys, understanding their achievements, and what they need to do to grow.

ENRICHING: The curriculum is enhanced through purposeful opportunities outside of the classroom. We enhance the children’s cultural capital by planning experiences that will enrich their learning experiences.

STIMULATING: Our curriculum is exciting and captures the attention of our learners. We cater for all of our learners by understanding all learning styles and adapting lessons to support their development.

IMPLEMENTATION

All of our subjects are taught discretely and curriculum maps are produced for each year group, placing a strong emphasis on progression of knowledge and skills.  We have carefully selected enrichment opportunities that are key to enhance the chidlren’s learning. Through our Allfarthing absolutes, we ensure that teachers carefully plan assessment points, to adapt planning and delivery where necessary.

Our approach to teaching and learning supports our curriculum by ensuring that lessons build on prior learning and provide opportunities for guided and independent practice. Key skills such as evaluation, reflection and investigation are developed across our curriculum.

IMPACT

Measuring the impact of our curriculum is ongoing. We evaluate the effectiveness of the way the curriculum is designed and taught through:

  • analysing pupil outcomes
  • conducting regular Governor meetings
  • gathering feedback from parents, children and teaching staff
  • carrying out lesson observations
  • carrying out 'Book Looks'
  • conducting learning walks
  • gathering Pupil Voice
